Krishna's Child

Xena and Gabrielle had decided to return to Amphipolis after their journey to india. whenever Xena returned, it always looked the same. same dirt on the road, same smells, same people that hated her. people who could never forgive her.

The baby inside of her kicked, making her flinch in surprise. it was Krishnas child she carried, no humans. she had only been pregnant for a few days, but her stomach already bulged like it was about to explode.

The villagers looked at her with the animosity she thought they would carry for her forever. Gabrielle was quiet, probably thinking of baby names. Xena chuckled silently to herself. she herself was pondering more serious matters. who would foster the child? she couldn't leave it with her mother, she was dead, and torres, well, she didn't even know where he was.

Her stomach cramped, and she felt something wet between her legs. her water had broke. "Gabrielle," she said," i need a midwife."

"So soon?" Gabrielle asked. Xena nodded. "Help!" Gabrielle cried.

Xena lay on the straw covered pallet. the midwife, Lycoura, was amazed at how painless Xena's birth was. Xena just pushed, and soon the baby was out, and her crying sounded like the muses singing. that was definitely odd.

"You have a girl, Xena. a beautiful baby girl.:"

The baby was blue-skinned, with hair darker than midnight. her eyes were a deep, soulful brown, and she already had all of her teeth. and , in between her eyes, there was a birthmark shaped like a crescent moon.

Xena lifted up her arms to hold her baby. her tears welled in her euphoria, and Lycoura smiled at the sight.

"What will you name her, Xena?" Gabrielle asked.

"Lais. That's her name.:"

at that moment, a shower of golden light lit the room, as if Krishna was blessing his child. Lycoura felt her eyes go wide. Gabrielle stuck her hand into the light to see if it wasn't just a coincidence of a sunlight beam draining into the room at that particular moment, but the light just went right through her hand.

"Lycoura," Xena said quietly.

"Yes?"

"Will you foster my baby? i can't take her with me."

"of course, Xena." Lycoura took the baby from Xena's arms and said," she will always know who her mother is."

A tear dropped from Xena's eye as she whispered, "thank you."
